2059. Five recommended things for Selling and Purchasing.

Firstly. Learning the rules of daily transactions is recommended for a businessperson. In fact, if he knows that amongst the transactions some are valid and some are void and if it is not possible for him to differentiate between them, then it is obligatory upon him to learn the laws regarding it or he should refrain from those transactions.

Imam Jafar Sadiq (A.S) is reported to have said, "Anyone who wishes to engage in business, should learn its rules and laws, and if he makes any transaction without learning them, he may suffer because of entering into a void or doubtful transaction.

Secondly. One should not discriminate between various buyers while charging for the commodities, except in the case of piety and virtue.

Thirdly. One should not be adamant about the prices.

Fourthly. One should give more of what he is selling and should take a little less of what he is buying.

Fifthly. If the buyer regrets abiding by the transaction, and wishes to end the transaction, the seller should accept it.

2060. If a person is not aware, and because of the ignorance about the relevant laws, whether the transaction made by him is valid or void, he cannot have any occupancy over the property that he has acquired.

2061. If a person does not possess any wealth, and it is obligatory on him to maintain his dependents, like, his wife and children, he should start earning. Moreover, it is recommended to earn for recommended acts like providing better means of livelihood to one's family, and helping the poor.
